Seven weeks ago, we made the transition from standard time to daylight saving time. There there was a bit grousing on Facebook, but we survived and are now enjoying daylight lingering longer into the evening.
A hundred years ago, daylight saving time started only yesterday, on May 1. The following article, which appeared in the Columbia Republican on May 2, 1922, claims there was "practically no confusion" accompanying the change, but that's hard to imagine given that not every city in New York made the transition that year and the railroads continue to operate on standard time.
