Not to Be Missed

Seth Rogovoy, who, on WGXC's @Issue last week, questioned Gary Schiro about the wisdom of renaming the Hudson Opera House after a man who introduced Native Americans to alcohol and small pox, comments on yesterday's announcement of the tempering of the new name: "Hudson Opera House Retreats on New Name . . . Partially; Opts for 'Hudson Hall.'"

  1. I'm not sure what the cultural or otherwise importance of Hudson's introduction of alcohol or disease to the aboriginal Americans has to do with anything viz. the Opera House. Pretty sure Hudson was unaware of microbial biology or non-Europeans' inability to metabolize alcohol. Seems like a stretch to impute motive where the basis for the harm was unknown at the time.
