COVID-19 Update

The Columbia County Department of Health has released its numbers for today. Although we like to think the pandemic is over, there has been another death from COVID-19 in Columbia County in the past 24 hours. A press release from Matt Murell, chair of the Board of Supervisors, identifies the person who died as "a man in his 80s with comorbidities." Also in the past 24 hours, there have been 21 new cases of COVID-19. The number of active cases being reported today is 11 more than yesterday, from which it can be inferred that, since yesterday, 9 county residents have recovered from the virus. There is 1 fewer county resident hospitalized today than yesterday, and none is in the ICU.

A year ago today, the CCDOH reported 26 new cases of COVID-19. The total number of cases was 5,472, and the number of active cases was 74. There were 120 county residents in mandatory quarantine, 5 were hospitalized, and 1 was in the ICU. The total number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Columbia County at this time last year was 104.
