More About 75 North Seventh and the PILOT

This morning, four of the aldermen who voted against or abstained from supporting the PILOT for 75 North Seventh Street--Jane Trombley (First Ward), John Rosenthal (Fourth Ward), Eileen Halloran (Fifth Ward), and Dominic Merante (Fifth Ward)--spoke about the project proposed for 75 North Seventh Street with Tom Roe on WGXC.

The discussion can be heard here, beginning at 1:10:45.

  1. If housing isn’t an option this is going to come in the form of rent control, bad STR legislation, and other measures that readers on this blog enjoy.

    1. So your argument amounts to "pass this terrible legislation or there will be other bad legislation to come." Not compelling.

    2. JF is anything he says ever compelling?

  2. For whatever it’s worth: I know people who LOVE Gossips of Rivertown, I know people who HATE Gossips of Rivertown, but if it were not for this blog, who else in Hudson is doing the hard work and making this information available?! Everyone takes it for granted, but if this blog went away what would we have? The Register-Star?!?! My god if you want to get depressed try reading the comments section there. I’m so glad got this amazing forum, warts and all.

    1. 100% do I agree with you. But if Galvan doesn’t build it who will? I would like to see a list of Galvan properties in Hudson rated with positive and negative per address. Big job big ratings. But the ratings must be by an impartial group.

    2. I agree, if it were not for this blog people would know nothing - for examply, Gossips picking up regarding the STR meetings that the draft on the City's website was out of date - how are people supposed to be informed. Certainly not by the Register Star!! which went downhill years ago, if it ever was any good. Maybe in the day of Raymond Kennedy about 50 years ago.
I'd also like to see a list of Galvan properties rated....

  3. This project requires a 95 percent real estate tax break for 40 YEARS. There will only be 27 "affordable" housing units out of 77 units plus 4000 sqft commercial space and no parking. HOW ABOUT 73 units out of 77--that is 95 percent. This is a BAD DEAL FOR HUDSON. I fear that those who support it are naive and being snowed by Galvan. If our city had access to financially sophisticated resources like the Galvan Foundation has, we would know better than to accept such an unfair offer. I perused some documents on this project but nowhere could I find the COSTS of construction. Everyone knows THAT is where watchdogs must look. All the other numbers serve to distract and confuse. It can be simple. What will it cost per sq ft? You can bet Galvan's professional staff know these calculations and THOSE are the ones the city must insist on learning. The City government wants to do the right thing---so they must negotiate a better deal because this is flagrantly outrageous IMHO.

  4. 75 North Seventh is a disaster waiting to happen. 77 spaces = 77 cars added to the area. This project should be DOA ... dead on arrival. Just another cheap housing "project", with no onsite amenities to speak of.
