Don't Come Here From There: Update
Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico have been added to the travel advisory list. There are now thirty-four states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico on the list of locations from which travelers must quarantine for fourteen days upon entering New York. Here is the full list, in alphabetical order. An asterisk indicates a new addition to the list.

OK, I don't mind if this question suggests that I am dumber than a box of rocks. What exactly does "quarantine" mean? I mean, as it is, if anyone gets too close to me, I snap at them. Given the size of my medical bills in the past year (hospitals when it comes to cost, are even "better" than suites at 5 star hotels in Manhattan), to then expire from this freaking virus would be a very sad waste of the taxpayers' money.
ReplyDeleteQuarantine means staying home, not leaving your house, and isolating yourself from other people in the home. You can find all the specific details here: https://www.silive.com/coronavirus/2020/03/mandatory-quarantine-precautionary-a-look-at-nys-coronavirus-measures.html
DeleteThe reasons for mandatory vs. precautionary quarantine are different--symptoms and exposure to someone who has tested positive being the triggers for the former--but the quarantine itself is the same except that the Health Department makes daily in-house visits to those on mandatory quarantine to make sure they are staying home. When you are on precautionary quarantine I think they just do the checks by phone.
I checked into a motel in Vermont yesterday, the clerk had to review the list of approved NY counties before allowing me to stay. Fortunately, Columbia is on the approved list.
