COVID-19 Update

The Columbia County Department of Health has released its numbers for today. Since yesterday, there has been another death from COVID-19 and a staggering 230 new cases. The number of active cases being reported today is 61 more than yesterday, from which it can be inferred that, since yesterday, 168 county residents have recovered from the virus. There are 3 more county residents hospitalized today than yesterday, but there is 1 fewer in the ICU. So far, 12 days into the new year, there have been 7 reported deaths from COVID-19 in Columbia County in 2022. 

The New York Forward dashboard is reporting a positivity rate for Columbia County today of 34.1 percent--the highest of any county in the Capital Region--and a seven-day average of 22.3 percent. By comparison, the daily positivity rate for the entire Capital Region is 18.6 percent and the seven-day average is 19.3 percent.

A year ago today, the CCDOH reported 37 new cases of COVID-19. The total number of cases was 2,254, and the number of active cases was 329. There were 549 county residents in mandatory quarantine, 24 were hospitalized, and 1 was in the ICU. The total number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 at this time last year was 54.

  1. Again, this report tells us nothing. At a minimum it should breakout vaccinated and un-vaccinated and a simple age distribution.
