Church or Club? Question Answered

A reader familiar with Sanborn Insurance maps explained how a map dated 1923 didn't necessarily reflect the state of things in 1923. The maps were updated periodically, and owners of the maps paid for that service. The updating consisted of pasting new little squares with the new information over lots and buildings to show the new status. He speculated that the Sanborn map in the History Room of the library, although it bore the date 1923, had been updated over a period of twenty years or more, and that the status of the building shown on the map was probably its status in the 1940s, which corresponds with the information in the Hudson directories.
