Irrigating the Food Desert
Acres Co-op Market moved a little closer to becoming a reality recently when it received a $5,000 gift from an anonymous local donor. That brings the total donations for 2012 to $11,000. An Acres press release states, "With growing funds, early memberships, and general community enthusiasm, the co-op is on track to open its seven-day grocery store in Hudson." Exactly when that might be has not yet been announced, but people are waiting with eager anticipation. Information on the market's website indicates that thirty-five people have already paid their $150 to become members of the co-op and one hundred have pledged to become members.
