COVID-19 Update

The Columbia County Department of Health has released its numbers for today. The good news is that the number of new cases is going down. Since yesterday, there have been only eight new cases, and the number of active cases has been reduced by 66, suggesting that 74 more people are now considered to be recovering from the virus. The number of county residents hospitalized with COVID-19 and in the ICU remains the same as it was yesterday. Since yesterday, there has not been another death from COVID-19 in Columbia County.

The New York Forward dashboard is reporting a positivity rate for Columbia County yesterday of 8.2 percent and a seven-day average of 4.4 percent. By comparison, the daily positivity rate for the Capital Region is 4.6 percent and the seven-day average is 3.4 percent.

  1. If anyone has the feeling that NYS, in particular the Governor, wants to control the information released to the public, go to "Open NY" and try to figure out how to download the raw data. Most sites give you the option of the format you'd like to download the data in to but not NY. You have to be an experienced coder in SQL to get any data. It would be nice if you could download directly to an excel spreadsheet. But I guess then people would actually be able to analyze the data for themselves instead of relying on Cuomo to spoon feed them what he feels they need to know. Check it out at https://data.ny.gov/

If I'm wrong, post the link that allows downloading in to an excel format.

  2. Carole, I read the comment from Peter M above and couldn't remember posting something so articulate, not to mention on a subject (computer coding) I knew nothing about. --Peter M[eyer]

  3. I take that as a compliment (I think).

  4. If you go to the link, there is an export tab for each data set. If you choose CSV for Excel you will get a download of an excel CSV file. Very simple to do.
