Who Are the Victims of COVID-19?

Today, the greater part of Governor Andrew Cuomo's press briefing was devoted to talking about COVID deaths in nursing homes and in hospitals. By coincidence, Gossips' wondering yesterday about who was dying from COVID in Columbia County, prompted a reader, who has been tracking the county's numbers on the NYS Department of Health website, to provide the statistics on the deaths of nursing home residents in Columbia County. The charts below provide the information as of Tuesday, February 16. (Click on the image to enlarge.)

On February 16, the Columbia County Department of Health was reporting a total of 83 deaths from COVID-19 in Columbia County. Given that number, the 68 deaths of nursing home residents presents 81.9 percent. The NYS Department of Health, however, reported the number of deaths in Columbia County through February 16 to be 92. Given that number, the nursing home deaths represent 73.9 percent of the total.
