This morning, the following notice appeared on the Columbia Memorial Health Facebook page:
CMH is now taking COVID-19 Vaccine Appointment Requests!
Please visit the link below for more eligibility information and to submit a vaccine appointment request.
Once you submit a request PLEASE DO NOT call CMH or send subsequent emails. CMH will call you for an appointment if you meet the eligibility criteria and there are available slots.
We thank you for your patience and cooperation.
How could this be? I wondered. Where were they getting the vaccine? Last Friday, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that starting on Monday, February 15, vaccine that was being distributed to hospitals for their employees would be sent to local health departments and reallocated for people with pre-existing conditions that make them more vulnerable to COVID-19.
Clicking on the link provided, I discovered that the only people eligible for an appointment at CMH are those classified 1A--health care workers. It appears that CMH is now making vaccine not used on its own employees available to health care workers employed elsewhere.
