Almost There for the Lodging Tax

It appears that Bill S7790, authorizing the City of Hudson to impose a lodging tax, passed in the State Senate in the final hours of the legislative session. The next step is for the legislation to be delivered to Governor Andrew Cuomo for him to sign it or veto it. You can monitor the bill's progress here.

    1. I believe the bill you are talking about applies only to New York City: http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2016/06/20/us/ap-us-airbnb-rentals-new-york.html?_r=0

  3. Well, I was curious about the precise timing, and found this:

"If a bill is sent to the Governor when the Legislature is out of session, the rules are a bit different. At such times, the Governor has 30 days in which to make a decision, and failure to act ("pocket veto") has the same effect as a veto."

So, the lodging tax bill was passed on June 17, which means the governor needs to sign it by July 17, or it is an automatic "pocket veto."
