Governor Andrew Cuomo did a press briefing today in which he said, regarding the spread of the coronavirus, "New York State is doing great, but I see storm clouds on the horizon." Included in his briefing was this map, which shows that the rate of infection is now on the rise in 35 of the 50 states.
Cuomo announced that testing in New York State will now be available to all New Yorkers. You don't have to be experiencing symptoms, have been in contact with someone with the virus, or be in a position to come in contact with lots of other people. Everyone is now encouraged to be tested. The next free walk-up clinic in Hudson is on Tuesday, July 7, from 9 to 11 a.m., on the sidewalk in front of the former John L. Edwards School, 360 State Street. That free walk-up clinic will be repeated--same hours, same place--on Tuesday, July 21, and Tuesday, July 28.
Cuomo warned that citizen compliance with wearing masks and social distancing was slipping and local government compliance enforcement was not sufficient. "If citizens don't comply, if local government doesn't enforce compliance, the virus spreads."
On the subject of wearing masks, Good Morning America reported this morning on the effectiveness of four difference types of face coverings. That report can be viewed here.
Interesting among the findings is that if no one is wearing a mask, six feet may not be far enough apart to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. It was also shown that a homemade mask made with two layers of cotton provides the best protection, although anything is better than nothing.
Wear a mask.
