Shared Summer Streets to Continue

Hudson Hall just made an announcement that began: "We are happy to share that based on the results of the Trial Weekend surveys and other feedback, the City has decided to extend Shared Summer Street through the summer and, pending feedback, most likely into the fall." A new executive order will be issued by the end of the day today.

Yesterday, the Hudson Business Coalition submitted a letter to Mayor Kamal Johnson expressing concerns about the $24 a week rental fee, the rental of unused spaces to other businesses or organizations, and ending street sharing at 8:30 p.m. The announcement from Hudson Hall indicated that the $24 fee will be waived again this weekend, and "solutions for ways to subsidize fees beyond this weekend are being sought." It also indicates that the new executive order will include "amendments addressing the feedback received, including extended evening hours." There was no specific mention of enabling shop owners to keep the parking spaces in front of their locations free of other businesses or organizations, but that could be in the executive order.

  1. That's good so far. Good work everyone. However if after this weekend a store owner does not want to purchase the spaces in front of their store I think it is
unfair if the City allows other vendors to purchase the spaces. The parking spaces should be left for customers and/or pick ups and deliveries and the meters used as normal. Thus the City still gets revenue without blocking the store with a confusing array of goods.
