COVID-19 Update

The Columbia County Department of Health took a holiday from reporting its COVID numbers yesterday, but it appears the virus did not. Since Sunday, there have been five new cases of COVID-19 and one recovery, increasing the number of active cases by four to seventeen. There is one more person hospitalized with the virus today than Sunday, and one in the ICU when there were none on Sunday. The number of county residents in mandatory and precautionary quarantine remains the same as on Sunday. It has now been 126 days since there has been a death from COVID-19 in Columbia County.

With five positives out of 625 test results received, the positive percentage rate for the past two days is 0.8 percent. The seven day rolling average, according to Gossips' calculations, is o.86 percent--that is, 19 positives out of 2,205 test results received.

  2. Is this the beginning of the dreaded second wave? It would be nice if County Health put some meat on these skimpy data bones.

Walk around Hudson on any weekend. It's teaming with people. Are the recent spikes connected? Should people working in high traffic businesses be extra cautious?

  3. The most meaningful data point in tracking the Covid spread is Infection Rate. But our County Health Department gives it absolutely no consideration, leaving us uneducated about our local infection rate or the pace of its spread. Not good. Not helpful.
