Meetings of Interest in the Week Ahead

It is now less than a month, just twenty-nine days, until Election Day, and here's what is happening in Hudson this week.
  • On Monday, October 5, the Board of Estimate and Apportionment meets at 1:00 p.m. The proposed 2021 budget for the police department will be presented to the BEA at this meeting. The link for joining the meeting can be found on the City of Hudson website. Scroll down to the calendar.
  • Also on Monday, October 5, the Tourism Board meets at 7:00 p.m. It is not clear what they will be discussing, since most of the $435,000 was been distributed, and season for tourism events is pretty much over.   • On Tuesday, October 6, at 1:00 p.m., the Hudson Industrial Development Agency (IDA) holds a special meeting to consider the PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) agreement sought by 620 Hudson House LLC, the boutique hotel proposed for 620 Union Street. At the last meeting of the IDA, the developer was asked to address the city treasurer's concerns that the proposed PILOT agreement assumed "no increase in assessment or tax rate" during the eleven-year course of the agreement.   • On Tuesday, October 6, at 3:00 p.m., the HDC Emergency Cultural Task Force meets at 3:00 p.m. At this week's meeting, Filiz Soyak will report on what's happening at Hudson Arts Community, plans for documenting, archiving, and presenting the work that was produced as part of the Hudson Emergency Arts Project, and her Breath Flags public art installation along the Hudson River Skywalk.   • On Tuesday, October 6, at 4:00 p.m., Mayor Kamal Johnson holds a public hearing on the proposed local law increasing the fines for certain parking violations. The most significant increase is in the fine for illegally parking in a handicapped zone, which will be increased to $100.   • On Tuesday, October 6, at 6:00 p.m., the Conservation Advisory Council holds its monthly meeting. Neither the link to join the Zoom meeting nor the agenda for the meeting has no far been published.
  • On Wednesday, October 7, the Board of Estimate and Apportionment (BEA) meets at 2:30 p.m. The proposed 2021 budgets for the mayor's office, the Common Council, and the city clerk's office will be presented to the BEA at this meeting.   • Also on Wednesday, October 7, the Common Council Youth, Education, Seniors and Recreation Committee meets 5:30 p.m. and the Housing and Transportation Committee meets at 6:45 p.m. The link to join each meeting will be posted on the City of Hudson website. Scroll down to the calendar.

  • Also on Friday, October 9, the Board of Estimate and Apportionment (BEA) meets at 1:00 p.m. The proposed 2021 budgets for the fire department, the assessor's office, and the code enforcement office will be presented to the BEA at this meeting.   2. It'll be interesting to see what comes out of these budget meetings: much needed severe cuts or business as usual. Any bets?
