Hold Your Recyclables

Public Works superintendent Rob Perry made this announcement this afternoon:
Due to a COVID outbreak and associated mandated quarantine, there will not be sufficient staff to collect recyclables on Thurs 11/18/21.
Please hold all recycled materials until next Friday 11/26/21.

  1. DPW trash and recycling crews of up to 3 men are often sitting TIGHTLY together in the cab of the trucks. Early in Covid I noticed that they were never masked and warned Rob Perry and the Mayor about this. Then the crews were masked. But it didn't last long, and I haven't seen them masked in many many months. That's my guess where this originated.
Early in Covid I asked an unmasked parking enforcer I passed on a busy Warren Street sidewalk why he wasn't wearing a mask, and if he even had one on him. His reply was classic, "No one is gonna make me wear a mask" he barked back at me. Another one replied "I have it right here in my pocket" and he pulled the mask out to show me. Both were, and still are, City of Hudson POLICE DEPT employees. And this was after City Hall had put signs up all over town WEAR A MASK, DO YOUR PART 6 FEET APART. It's like they don't talk to one another. The breakout at DPW doesn't surprise me one bit, it had to happen eventually. Let's hope it is minimized.
I'm not certain, but I think HPD is dealing with some quarantine issues with its officers.

  2. Ridiculous. No imagination. If you can't pick it up, give people a place to drop it off. Done.

  3. B HUSTON. You need to take a chill pill, all I read from you are anti Hudson comments. We are fortunate to have a fine group of City Employees in all dept, who go above and beyond their job description.

    1. You are not paying attention, mandog. I prefer to pay attention and comment on what I see and hear. Sorry about that. If it says bb at the top of a comment, please skip over it to avoid the agony I cause you. Stick to the cheery stuff.

  4. Could this be a prelude to the fate of garbage pick up for next week?

    1. They've had 2 trucks running lately, with a crew of 3 and a crew of 2 or 3, I believe. So maybe not a garbage pick up issue right now.

  6. This brings up an interesting question. Are city employees required to be vaccinated? If not why not? At the very least mask wearing should be a hard non negotiable. (And that means over the nose.)
