Public Hearing Tonight

The Planning Board begins its public hearing tonight on the Galvan Foundation's proposal to build two apartment buildings, with a total of 138 units, on North Seventh Street, in the area of the city Galvan is calling "the Depot District." Of the 138 units, 54 will be affordable for low- and moderate-income residents. The rest will be market rate. Galvan is seeking PILOTs (payment in lieu of taxes) for both buildings.

A large turnout can be expected for tonight's public meeting. For the past few days, the Hudson/Catskill Housing Coalition has publishing the link to the meeting on Facebook and in email appeals, encouraging supporters to attend the meeting and voice support for affordable housing. Here is the text of an email distributed yesterday.

  1. More affordable housing in Hudson? YES!!
On N. 7th Street? NO WAY. NO THANK YOU. NO PARKING. NO SMART. NO GALVAN.

  2. Our Plannong Board does not need any reminding about the importance of more affordable housing in Hudson. They get it. They want it, too. Tonight is about where that will happen and if the location is appropriate, not why it should happen. We don't need to rehash that anymore, do we?

  3. No PILOTS. I pay taxes. My building does not make a profit.I don't expect my fellow citizens to support me. Corporate welfare is wrong.
