Plan Ahead

Back in May, when Mayor Kamal Johnson announced the weekend suspension of alternate side of the street rules for overnight parking, it was indicated that the suspension was in effect until further notice. In the past, the suspension lasted until the end of September or the end of October, so it is with some fear and trepidation that I have been parking the Gossipmobile on the odd side of the street every weekend night.

Not wanting to be caught by surprise or have my readers caught by surprise, I inquired about the end of the weekend suspension. This morning, I learned from mayor's aide Michael Hofmann that Thanksgiving weekend will be the last weekend that alternate side of the street rules will be suspended for overnight parking. Beginning the first weekend in December, the alternate side rules for overnight parking will be in effect seven days a week. From midnight to 8 a.m., cars must be parked on the side of the street where the houses are odd numbered if the day's date is odd and on the side of the street where the houses are even numbered if the day's date is even.

  1. Thank you. Yesterday my new neighbor asked me about alternate side parking and I had to tell him “It’s complicated “. If not got Gossips, how would anyone in Hudson even know?

    1. A ten dollar ticket would let you know. That's how it works in Hudson.

  3. The whole point of alternate parking is to clear the street for cleaning, but cleaning isn't done on weekends, so what's the point of having it on weekends - collecting ticket fees from unsuspecting weekenders, that's about it. That's a pretty lame way to go about collecting money. You might as well set up a weekend tool both at the entry points into town and charge an entry toll.
