An Explanation Offered
Tom Casey reports in today's Register-Star why there is still no sidewalk along the side of 260 Warren Street, one of the many buildings in Hudson owned by Galvan Partners: "Sidewalk construction delayed." The sidewalk was torn out in July, and three months later it is still missing. According to the article, the delay has to do with National Grid and Verizon.
"Sneakiness & Slovenliness" - what a mess.
ReplyDeleteHa! Thanks V. Ain't it so.
ReplyDeleteactually that comment - thank YOU - should be applied to the next story about the Boys & Girls Club for sure!
ReplyDeleteALL CAPS IS ME. Rest is Register Star"Sidewalk Construction Delayed"

...........Galvan Initiatives Special Adviser and Fifth Ward Supervisor Rick Scalera said it might take some time before the sidewalk can be replaced.
“There is no one to blame, but it’s unfortunate. People are concerned and everyone is working on it, but it’s not going to be soon because there are scheduling issues,” said Scalera.(THERE IS NO ONE TO BLAME?
THAYS FUNNY.I HAVE QUITE A LIST AND DOCUMENTATION,FOR STATE AND Dept. of TRANSPORTATION.)
Hudson Mayor Bill Hallenbeck said he would continue to push to have the project finished as quickly as possible to ensure the safety of those who have to walk around the site, (INTO TRUCK RTE )but he said there are not many options available to the city.(HOW ABOUT A TEMP. CROSSWALK ?)
“I certainly do have an issue,” he said. “That section of street is dark and the sidewalk is not accessible, so it is causing people to walk in the street along the truck route,” he said.(THE MAYOR HAS AN "ISSUE" CITIZENS FORCED INTO A TRUCK RTE THAT IS NOT LIT ,BUT HAS DONE NOTHING FOR THE SAFTEY OF ALL PEDESTRIANS IN A NEIGHBORHOOD OF CHILDREN SINCE JULY ?OR FOR THE PAST 6 YRS )“But we are at the mercy of (Verizon and National Grid).(”OH,HE IS AT THE MERCY OF VERIZON AND NATIONAL GRID?) OH,WHO WAS THE ENGINEER ON THIS PROJECT THAT DIDN"T FIGURE THIS OUT BEFORE JULY?)_THIS TAB BETTER ALL BE GALVAN"S)
Sidewalk construction permits are generally for 14 days. However, Perry said this was a unique situation because of the extensive construction behind the sidewalk, so it is not uncommon for these construction projects to go longer.
“That sort of work is usually just demolishing existing sidewalk and pouring concrete,” he said. “For this, it’s a little different because there is construction involved, running wires and pipes, so it’s not uncommon to take longer than two weeks.”(ALL PERMITS PLEASE?WHO IS PAYING FOR THIS?WHERE DOES THE DOT STAND? WHERE IS THE ENGINEERS REPORT?)THEY HAVE LEFT 6-9 FOOT GAPPING HOLES WITH ONLY PROTECTION IS A SINGLE PEICE OF CONSTRUCTION PLASTIC ORANGE FENCING 1/3PAST OPENING OF HOLE a 1/3 INTO STREET _TRUCK RTE_NOT SIDEWALK.)
(WHO IS SCALERA REPRESENTING???)
Scalera said delays are not uncommon and that possible fines are not a concern.(WHY DOES A REPRESENTATIVE OF GALVAN KNOW THAT POSSIBLE FINES ARE NOT A CONCERN?)
“The* city *(WHO IS THE CITY?)has always taken (delays) into consideration and *we *(WHO IS WE?)are trying to move forward so the least concern is worrying about fining somebody,” he said. “That’s the nature of when *you *(WHO IS YOU?)start digging in the ground, so you have to proceed very carefully.”
Scalera said the December timetable was a worst-case scenario date, and that Galvan would like the project to be done sooner rather than later with winter approaching.
“We want to get this finished a lot sooner than (December),” he said. “We’re getting closer into inclement weather, snow and salt, and drying conditions are not conducive to doing sidewalks in that weather so there is a real sense of urgency to get this done.”
GALVAN OWN"S BUILDING-NO URGENCY JUST LET US KNOW WHO WE NEED TO SUE_,SCALERA AS GALVAN REP? OR THE *CITY*_AS SCALERA FORGETS HE ISN"T MAYOR SOMETIMES
Keep on it Prison Alley!
ReplyDeleteI saw a near accident at that site today, with two-way traffic navigating around a dumping dump truck and nobody slowing down.
There should have been someone directing traffic in that scenario. There wasn't.
There never is.ITs sheer madness. When the City had a black -out recently and the traffic lights were out, there wasn't one,NOT ONE,policeman or DPW worker to direct traffic at the most dangerous intersection of Trke RTE in HUDSON-turn at (N3rd and Columbia ST).It was a complete free for all.Massive tractor trailers to mopeds .Warren and N3rd had a no traffic control either,Only a tiny flare in middle of intersection..This went for over two hours.NO one from CITY SHOWED UP AT ALL
ReplyDeleteThe only legal way I can now get to my house on foot, from Warren St.
,is to walk on the east side of N3rd down to Columbia turn east and walk 20ft to Cross walk ,that is set back for the enormous semi's and tractor trailers to be able to make turn.Cross Columbia at traffic light.Walk back 20ft. to N3rd on northside Columbia to traffic light and cross N3rd heading west,Then wait at traffic light and cross Columbia ST.again .and walk 1/2 a block south up N3rd to My house at corner of Prison Alley and N3RD ~ 1/4 block from WARREN ST!
WHO IS GOING TO DO THAT? NO ONE!
SO ALL Pedestrians , especially children are crossing and walking chaotically on a MAJOR TRUCK ROUTE,where Drivers are not paying attention to anybody but on coming traffic,so that they do not get squashed by a SEMI or fall into a 6 foot deep Hole in the Street.
This is just a taste of life on N3RD They have been fortunate that I was extremely ill last round., I am happy to report, that since my last Scalera/ Galloway/Wurster smack down-I am feeling much better.
