HCSD's Response
As Gossips reported, in his press conference yesterday, Governor Andrew Cuomo called on schools to post their specific plans for remote learning, testing, and contact tracing before the end of next week. He also asked school districts to set up three discussion sessions with parents and one discussion session with teachers.
Today, the Hudson City School District issued a letter to parents and guardians explaining their plans to comply with Cuomo's requests. The letter can be found here. It promises the plans for remote learning, testing, and contact tracing will be available on the HSCD website on Friday, August 14--the end of next week.
The letter also announces when the required discussion sessions will take place.
- Teachers/Staff--Tuesday, August 11, 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
- MCS Families--Wednesday, August 12, 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
- HHS Families--Thursday, August 13, 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
- JHS Families--Monday, August 17, 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
In his press conference, Cuomo made it clear that he wanted three discussion sessions for parents so they had three choices of when to participate, given that parents' schedules might not allow them to attend a discussion session scheduled on a specific day. HCSD has chosen to make each of the three discussion sessions specific to one of its three buildings, which gives parents only one choice.
The letter also provides these directions:
In an effort to be as efficient as possible, all questions should be submitted to reopeningquestions@hudsoncsd.org prior to the Q&A session dates. Please specify the school building in the subject line (MCSES, JHS, HHS). Questions submitted will be answered during each school's session and included in the FAQ document located on our website. You may also continue to send questions to reopeningquestions@hudsoncsd.org after the sessions are completed and we will respond accordingly.
There has been no information regarding BOCES options for students this year. Will that be available?
ReplyDeleteSo the Governor says three discussions sessions. Assuming he means three per building (which I what I think you were getting at Gossips) that would mean a total of 9. The HCSD gave three. So NOW I see why our kids are failing so miserably in Math. SMH
ReplyDeleteI don't think Governor Cuomo intended or anticipated that school districts would do a separate discussion session for each building. His directive was that there would be three discussion sessions for the entire district. It was HCSD's interpretation that three discussion sessions meant one for each building. Also, my impression was that the governor wanted this sessions to be more interactive than what HCSD is proposing.
