A Preview of the Depot District

The full report on tonight's Planning Board meeting is yet to come, but first, for those who are curious, here are renderings and elevations for 75 North Seventh Street and 708 State Street that were presented to the Planning Board tonight by Galvan Initiatives Foundation. Both buildings are significantly different from what has been proposed for these two sites in the past. Galvan now has a new architect for the two projects, Walter Chatham, and has engaged the services of Dale Schafer from Wagner Hodgson, who did the landscape plan for the hotel at 620 Union Street, to design the green spaces.

  1. Whew...that’s a tremendous weight placed atop a clay bank and nearby landfill that slopes downward towards Oakdale Lake. Wondering how affordable housing will work for Hudson residents, as in will Hudson residents be offered a time frame in which they may sign a lease prior to open market offers? Hmmmmm...so should this project become a reality will Bliss eventually be demolished?

  2. As far as construction goes, sewers and drainage are a HUGE issue. What about the increased demand 136 units will create on the water treatment system ? Is there any special deal regarding real estate tax rates for the non affordable housing categorized spaces? Galvan's non-solution to parking is an outrageous sham. Maybe if they included their own parking lot it would be dangerously close to Oakdale so without it they avoid responsibility for drainage into Oakdale.

  3. More traffic, more garbage, more cars, more congestion, more pollution, more noise. Seems to me people moved and live here because it is a small quiet city. Traffic is getting worse but still not too bad. Why ruin that? For whose benefit? If people want a bigger city, they can move to Kingston, Albany, Poughkeepsie, there are plenty of options near and far. Lower rents in those places as well.

  4. This is so frightening on several fronts, parking being a biggie.
    One quick question: There is currently no parking allowed on the east side of N. 7th street north of State, directly in front of the proposed monstrosity known as 75 N. 7th Street (also referred to here as 75 South 7th Street!) Will that continue to be the case? B Huston

    1. Yes I think that is what I heard during that interminable meeting. They claim there are 176 available park spots within a 5 min walk from the site. So irresponsible!

  6. Parking becomes an issue in any small town. On 6 street, most of the time I cannot park in from of my own house. During the last 2 heavy rains sewer water backed up through my floor drains flooded my ground floor. Sewers can't handle current volume of water as is. The worst park of this project is the lack of amenities other than a small park. How about a pool or tennis courts etc.

    1. Yes, it has, but since the information I have about it only has the status of hearsay, I have not reported about it. You can't take that "Gossips" title literally.
