Jamie Larson's story about the lawsuit filed against Columbia County by nine mothers who are clients of the Department of Social Services appears in today's Register-Star: "Moms sue to keep DSS in city." The lawsuit claims that 54 percent of DSS clients live in Hudson and relocating DSS offices in Greenport would put "an undue burden on those in need of services like food stamps, rent assistance, counseling and more."
An intriguing aspect of the story is that Board of Supervisors Chair Roy Brown, County Attorney Robert Fitzsimmons, and several supervisors, including Hudson Fifth Ward Supervisor Bart Delaney, seem to think that Mayor Scalera is behind the lawsuit. Scalera vehemently denies it.
