A New Fund for the Arts

Yesterday, Joan K. Davidson and Furthermore announced a new fund for the arts. Founded in 1995 as a program of the J. M. Kaplan Fund, Furthermore has typically provided grants to support the publication of nonfiction books. Now, believing in the necessity of the arts, especially in hard times, Furthermore and the J. M. Kaplan Fund are establishing this new funding in the hope that it will help sustain Columbia County's arts organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Visual and performing arts organizations with 501(c)3 status, located in Columbia County, will be eligible for up to $5,000 in grants for operating support.

The deadline for submitting the online grant application is 12 midnight on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. The application is available at www.furthermore.org

Twice a year, Furthermore gives grants to support the publication of nonfiction books in the areas of art, architecture, and design; cultural history, the city, and related public issues; and conservation and preservation. Since 1995, Furthermore has supported more than 1,200 publications and disbursed nearly $7.3 million.
