On the Waterfront . . . in Its Industrial Past

Once upon a time, there was a car crusher in the slip beside what is now Rick's Point. Yesterday, while looking through the images at PhotobyGibson.com, in search of something else, I discovered this picture of a pile of wrecked cars awaiting crushing. The label on the photograph: "Junk Cars on Front Street - Hudson - 1969."

  1. Great find, with the prison's bell-tower on the horizon.

Do you know that New York state has no record of the South Bay dump (to the south in this view)? The dump was officially closed in 1932, but was used into the '50s or even longer.

The Task Force is correcting the oversight, but it's why the dump doesn't come up in the automated SEQR Environmental Assessment Forms offered online.
