Peaceful Protest

Yesterday in Kingston, there was a peaceful march in memory of George Floyd and in protest of his death: "Kingston march remembers George Floyd, man killed by Minnesota police."

This morning, on his personal Facebook page, Mayor Kamal Johnson announced plans for a peaceful demonstration to take place today at 4:00 p.m. at the entrance to Promenade Hill. The announcement also includes a request that everyone remain indoors starting at 8:30 p.m. tonight.

  1. You have my gratitude Mr. Mayor, as do the peaceful demonstrators.

  2. I am sorry not to have known about this protest until my Gossips daily digest arrived this evening. I hope it took place, was peaceful and well-attended and that effort will be made at broader publicity for the next event.

  3. I attended the event and saw over 250 people. I really hope we appreciate this young man while he’s still in local office. The way he is leading during everything in his path is remarkable. The sky’s the limit for this kid he’s only been in not even half a year!

  4. Should anything be read into Kamal not inviting the police chief to the protest? The commissioner yields little power and, I believe, lives in Chatham. Chief Moore is the day-to-day head of the HPD. Maybe he attended anyway or was unavailable, but the Mayor's wording is a bit suspect.

    1. Chief Moore was invited to participate and did. He just, for some reason, wasn't mentioned in the announcement.

  5. Why was it only posted on his personal page rather than the Mayor's page?
