Crisis Amid Crisis

At 4:11 a.m. this morning, Gossips received the following press release from the Hudson Police Department.
May 16, 2020. At approximately 10:54 p.m. Hudson Police foot patrols reported that they heard multiple gunshots in the downtown area of Hudson Terrace Apartments. Shortly thereafter Columbia County 911 received numerous calls from citizens reporting "shots fired." At 10:58 p.m. HPD received a call from Columbia Memorial Hospital that they were treating two male subjects with gunshot wounds. Soon after Detectives arrived at the emergency room they learned that one of the men had succumbed to his injuries. The deceased was an 18-year-old Hudson resident. His name has not been released pending notification of family members. The second subject, a 30-year-old Hudson resident, was airlifted to Albany Medical Center's trauma unit.
"Three recent shootings had prompted us to put an additional foot patrol in the downtown area. Detectives are presently conducting interviews and collecting evidence. It is yet to be determined whether these incidents are all related. The New York State Police and Columbia County Sheriff's Department have been assisting since the initial report tonight. The Trooper's Forensic Investigations Unit is currently processing the scene. It appears the shooting took place in a parking lot at Hudson Terrace Apartments. The victims were driven to Columbia Memorial Hospital in two separate vehicles." Chief

  1. There's too much "hanging out" in the parking lots of those apartments, especially next to Promenade Park. Really loud music coming from parked cars (easily heard anywhere in the park), guys smoking weed. Terrace management doesn't do enough to keep things in control. Last night at 7:00 four guys were playing horseshoes in Promenade while casually drinking open beers and whooping it up as if they were at a back yard barbeque. They and other friends watching retreated to Terrace property when an officer approached them after my call to HPD. Too much nonsense. BILL HUSTON

    1. They are having a backyard BBQ, because that is their backyard, there is no where else to go. And smoking weed, oh my gosh! Call the DEA! It's practically legal! Why don't YOU stop calling the police, code enforcement, etc about everything that bothers you. Stay home and mind your own business Bill.

    2. So, MS, you are okay with open container drinking in a public park? You should run for Mayor next election! We need someone with your brains in charge that we can all look up to and move Hudson forward. It's a PUBLIC PARK, mr. agressive, what goes on in there is my business.

  2. Most of the crime in Hudson happens in the public housing or Section 8 apts-- Hudson Terrace and the other places we all know about.

We need a strong police force to manage an otherwise hard to control sitution.

Shootings are a fact of life here due to public housing. do we really need more of it ??
