In his press briefing yesterday, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the FDA is expected to authorize Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine as soon as today, Thursday, December 10, and New York will be receiving an initial allocation of 170,000 doses as soon as this weekend. The first to receive the vaccine will be high-risk health care workers--that is, emergency room workers, ICU staff, and pulmonary department staff--and then nursing home residents and staff. The entire vaccination program for New York is outlined in a booklet published by the New York State Department of Health, which can be found here.
If you are curious to know where you stand in the vaccine prioritization, the New York Times published an interactive piece last week that can help: "Find Your Place in the Vaccine Line." Enter your age and the county you live in and indicate if you work in a high-risk profession, have COVID-related health risks, or live in a nursing home, and you can find out where you stand among other the residents of county and the state.
