Tonight's the Night . . .

the Common Council takes its show on the road, holding the informal meeting in the Community Room at Bliss Towers, 41 North Second Street, instead of in the Council Chamber at City Hall. It's part of a plan, proposed by Alderman Nick Haddad (First Ward), to bring government to the people. But alas, if the snow keeps falling throughout the day, as predicted, the debut of this populist initiative may have to be rescheduled. Gossips will keep you posted.

The photograph, from Historic Hudson's Rowles Studio Collection, shows the Council Chamber in the 1870s, when it was located in building that was built in 1855 as City Hall and is now known as the Hudson Opera House.

  1. Why would you cancel a meeting at Bliss Towers because of snow? You don't need a 4x4 to take the elevator.
