Yesterday, the work wall at 255 Warren Street was removed to reveal the newly reconstructed storefront. The picture at right shows what the facade looked like a year ago. The picture below, taken at about 5:30 yesterday, shows some of what's been going on behind that work wall over the past months.
Bravo to Michael Harris and Christopher Haupert for this lovely change in the streetscape.

ReplyDeleteAs a member of the D'Onofrio family, the bldg. owners from early 1900's to mid 1970's, I want to state that the restoration is a welcome sign.
ReplyDeleteMy Grandfather, Gennarino D'Onofrio, operated a shoe store (actually made, sold & repaired shoes) & a restaurant at 255. After his death my Uncle "Buddy" owned & operated the restaurant/tavern. My Aunt Marie operated a Beauty Salon on the 2nd story.
The D'Onofrio family lived on the 2nd level. The family immigrated many relatives by offering a place to live, work & a new life in America.
My Mom and Dad Always spoke fondly about "Genn's"...
