And Now This . . .

At 10 p.m. on Saturday night, Maria Suttmeier, superintendent of the Hudson City School District, announced that schools would be closed beginning on Wednesday, March 18. The announcement reads in part:
After consulting with local Departments of Health, superintendents in the Questar III BOCES region of Rensselaer, Columbia, and Greene counties decided to cancel all classes effective Wednesday, March 18, until Friday, March 27, out of an abundance of caution. . . . Columbia County does not have any confirmed cases at this time. Like many districts in the Questar region, we are cancelling clases beginning on Wednesday, March 18, in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and to ease public anxiety about schools being in session during this public health crisis. We are doing all we can to prepare our students and staff for a prolonged closing and shift in the educational environment.
The entire statement can be read here.

  1. Saying that there have been no confirmed cases in Columbia County is highly irrelevant and shows a lack of understanding of the situation. Some staff members within HCSD travel from outside Columbia County and are from infected areas. The primary transmission of this virus comes from people who show no symptoms as all, and just how many tests have been given in Columbia County? The reasoning to stay open two more days is deeply flawed.

  2. New York is the most contaminated state and city in the country. Where do so many people go from the city? That'a right, Hudson. Leadership does not mean waiting to see what everyone else does.
Good luck to all the staff and students in Hudson.
