Santa Comes to Hudson

Can you spot Santa Claus in this sea of people gathered in Seventh Street Park?

The picture, taken in 1961, is from the remarkable collection at PhotobyGibson.com.

  1. I have viewed this photo many times over the past few years since it was first posted on the Gibson site and I am convinced that is my mother in the tan coat just to the front right of the tree in the background. Having been 5 years old at the time and living a block away on 8th Street I am certain that I would have been there. There was always a Santa in the toy department on the lower level of J.J. Newberry's. Events of this type always drew large crowds . GREAT times in the City of Hudson.

  2. That website is AMAZING. I wonder if anyone in that photo still lives in Hudson.

    1. Yes I recognize a few of the kids in the photo that live in or near Hudson today.

  3. OMG I'm watching “It’s A Wonderful Life” tonight on NBC. This beautiful old photo takes me back to times like that. We live in a town full of ghosts.

    1. So does most of America. The Malls and Big Boxes killed it. (nevermind the politicians.

    2. True. True. But Hudson goes back 400 years.
