An Interesting Development

About half an hour ago, Mayor Kamal Johnson made the following announcement on his Facebook page:
Michael Chameides announces he is leaving his role as City of Hudson Mayoral Aide and ADA Coordinator. Chameides's last day as Mayoral Aide is June 11, 2021.
As Mayoral Aide, Chameides supported Mayor Johnson's project priorities, including affordable housing, public health initiatives related to Covid, the creation of an accessibility policy and ADA compliance, and Promenade Hill Park improvements.
"I am honored to have assisted Mayor Kamal Johnson and support the equitable city platform," says Chameides. "I have valued the opportunity to serve our community and work with residents, volunteers, city employees, elected officials, and city partners. I will continue to support the Mayor and the equitable city platform."
"I'm thankful to Chameides for his service to our city," says Mayor Kamal Johnson. "I look forward to continuing to work with him through his role as County Supervisor in order to make our city more equitable."
Mayor Johnson is reviewing candidates for the Mayoral Aide position and anticipates an announcement in the coming weeks.

  1. When reviewing new candidates, be sure to count how many times they use the word “equitable” in their cover letter.

  2. Rumor is that MC plans to primary Didi Barrett. You’d forgiven for thinking that certain Hudson Dem factions want to help a Republican get her Assembly seat.

    1. Certain Dem factions have gotten way too big for their breeches. They are only interested in influence - not what is best for the city. But that's typical.

  3. Sam, that's an interesting theory, but it supposes that Michael has been campaigning for quite a while already--isn't the primary on June 22 and wouldn't that require a write-in at this late date?--and thus it's not just a "rumor"? Is this really a stealth campaign by Kamal progressives to unseat the moderate Democrat Didi?

    1. The primary on June 22 is only for local positions. Assemblymembers don't face reelection until 2022.

  4. Whatever questions surround the mayor, Chameides supported his run and acted as his enabler, and so bears responsibility for the mess he is walking away from. If he's planning a run for higher office, his resume seems thin on accomplishments and heavy on dubious talking points.

Notably, 'equity' seems to be a highlighted term on Hofmann's mailer and this announcement , perhaps as a clumsy substitute for more accurate descriptors like 'cronyism,' 'patronage,' or 'ineptitude.' I guess it's not just great minds that think alike.
