Today, May 4, was the 194th anniversary of the birth of Frederic Edwin Church, and this evening, the staff and directors at the Olana State Historic Site celebrated the occasion with a Zoom session that showcased their favorite vistas, architecture, garden, and behind-the-scenes views of Church's sprawling estate, recognized as his greatest masterpiece. At the end of the Zoom event, Sean Sawyer, president of The Olana Partnership, revealed that "one of the most art historically important views" from Olana will now be all of ours to enjoy whenever the spirit moves.

Olana has launched Olana Eye, a live skycam from the top of the artist's Studio Tower, to share Church's iconic view of the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains. Church told his fellow artist Martin Johnson Heade, "I make a study from my studio window of a sunset or twilight nearly every day." The Olana Eye allows everyone to experience the view from Church's studio window at anytime of the day or night and in all seasons.
