Ballots and Public Hearings

The absentee ballot for the Hudson City School District budget vote and board election arrived in the mail today.

But when I tried to log in to the budget hearing that was being live streamed starting at 6:30 p.m., this is the message I got.

  1. Dan and I received the ballots, checked the “correct” boxes (this one was not a close decision for us), filled in the blanks and affixed our signatures on the envelop where indicated, and then Dan drive to the post office and handed them to the counter clerk and asked her to put them in the local zip code pile so that they would not be shipped to Albany or Newburgh for sorting only to return to their point of origin at the self same post office. The clerk said OK and out the two ballot envelopes in the correct pile. We live the complicated and interesting times. Thanks to Gossips for helping navigate through this particular labarynth. We did as “instructed.” 😇

  2. I got the same blocking message. They need to do it over. What a mess. It doesn't matter though; the public needs to understand that the contingency or backup budget they will pass after a NO VOTE on the HCSD budget would only be $134,244 less than the budget we are voting on. This is not hardship for the District and is the cost of one senior executive. So ballot delivery issues, no clear ability to do budget hearings, a sneaky contingency budget plan and you've got the HCSD. VOTE NO! WRITE IN Mr. MC SMITH for the Board.

  3. Hudson Voters have been hoodwinked by the HCSD for decades.

it is one of the worst performing most expensive school districts in the state, and you really hve no recourse. its ll pensions patronge and no teaching.

  4. This whole process has been a disaster. I called and wrote to Ms. Coons several times over the last two weeks and never got a response.

  5. I contacted leslie Coons to confirm that I was on the registered voter list. She answered the phone and got me the information in minutes. As by ballot had not arrived at the beginning of the week, I contacted her again and she explained the situation to me.
I received my ballot. Yesterday afternoon she called me to make sure that I had received my ballot.
Yes this was something of a fiasco, but I do not think that Leslie is to blame.

  6. You are right. Leslie is not to blame. The person whose salary is now $183,000 a year and never accepts responsibility for anything that goes wrong in the district is to blame. But all you're going to get there is "it wasn't my fault." "It wasn't my fault." I have personally witnessed this for years. If it's something good ( even if it's made up) she'll be calling her friend ( Register Star) and posting on the district website. If it's something not good, "it's not my fault."
