Good News for Restaurants and Their Patrons
Restaurants in the Capital District will not be allowed to reopen their dining rooms for another couple of weeks, but the Albany Business Review just reported that the governor announced today that outdoor dining can resume tomorrow, June 4: "Cuomo: Restaurants can start outdoor dining this week." Outdoor tables must be spaced 6 feet apart, all staff must wear face coverings, and customers must also wear face coverings when not seated.
This is really excellent news -- for the few restaurants in town with any outdoor space to speak of. For those without, they're relegated to just a few tables on the sidewalk. The City could assist these vital businesses with a plan for temporary and selective street closures and partial closures. If it worked with the SLA it might even be able to make Hudson a model for progressive regulatory leadership. That would, of course, require effort.
ReplyDeletePossible to temporarily make Warren St. one lane/one way so there’s be more room for outside seating? I’m guessing additional lines would have to be drawn to indicate pedestrian seating off the curb, with parking on one side moved into the closed lane, but corresponding to current meters so the city can recoup some much-needed revenue. Maybe just for the busiest blocks to see how it works.
ReplyDeleteClose Warren from front to fourth Monday through Wednesday. Should have been done long before covid.
