In the Hudson Valley, It's Always Something
There is a battle downriver that's been going on for a while now over a new power plant proposed to be built on the Hudson River. Last October, the City of Newburgh passed a resolution opposing the proposed new Danskammer power plant. This action came a week after Orange County officials voted to support the project.

Today, Scenic Hudson announced a webinar on the subject of the proposed plant, to take place on Wednesday, May 6, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The announcement provides this information about the project:
The proposed Danskammer fracked gas plant in Newburgh poses a major public health threat to all residents of the mid-Hudson Valley. It has the potential to vastly increase air pollution that contributes to respiratory illnesses as well as emissions of climate warming greenhouse gases.
Participants in the "Danskammer & Public Health" webinar are:
- Dr. David Carpenter, director of SUNY's Institute for Health and the Environment
- Kevindaryan Lujan, Orange County legislator
- Anthony Grice, Newburgh City Council member
- Hayley Carlock, Esq. (moderator), Scenic Hudson Environmental Advocacy director
"Danskammer & Public Health" is sponsored by Scenic Hudson, Riverkeeper, Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Orange RAPP, U-Act, New Paltz Climate Action Coalition, Newburgh Clean Water Project, and others. To register for the webinar, click here.
