Places to Go on a Sunday Afternoon

The parks in Hudson are closed, but not far away there are two state historic sites that offer wonderful walking paths and carriage trails for exploring and enjoying picturesque and calming vistas.

Nearest a hand is Olana, the home of Hudson River School landscape painter Frederic Church. Tours of the house and programs have been suspended, but the house's 250-acre landscape, designed by Church, remains free and open as a public park.

Dogs on leashes are welcome, and their humans are asked to pick up after them. Visitors must maintain a safe distance from each other--at least six feet. Masks and other face coverings are recommended.

A bit farther along Route 9G heading south is Clermont, the Hudson River seat of the Livingston family. As with Olana, the grounds of Clermont remain open every day for walking and enjoying the views. Very soon the lilacs will be in bloom.

Dogs on leashes are welcome at Clermont, too. Visitors are required to maintain appropriate distance, and face coverings are recommended.
