The McKinstrys

Two months ago, prompted by the plans to transform 620 Union Street into a 50-room hotel, Gossips published a history of the house and its original owners, Robert and Sally McKinstry. One of the sources used for that post was a brochure called "Sally's House," researched and written by Columbia County historian Ruth Piwonka. The image and text below is from that brochure.

Robert and Sally McKinstry may have planned unmarked graves, and I have no doubt that, as Piwonka indicates, their graves initially were unmarked, in accordance with their wishes. At some point, however, between 1872 and today, a monument to Robert and Sally McKinstry was erected in the Hudson City Cemetery. Recently, that monument was cleaned by a diligent and unsung cemetery guardian.
